Mandurah has been named the Top Tourism Town of Western Australia (WA) for the second consecutive year at the 7NEWS Top Tourism Town Awards. This award recognises towns that have invested significantly in encouraging tourism and increasing visitation to their destination. It is the third time Mandurah has been awarded this accolade, having previously won in 2017 as well.
Mayor Rhys Williams credited the win to the work being done to revitalise Mandurah. “This recognition two years running is a testament to our efforts in transforming Mandurah,” he said. “We’ve seen significant private and public investment over the past few years, leading to a real change in infrastructure, business growth and how we think of ourselves and how others perceive us.”
The success of Thomas Dambo’s Giants of Mandurah project was a major factor in their win, with thousands of visitors from all over visiting the city over the past twelve months. Visit Mandurah General Manager Anita Kane saw this victory as an opportunity for further growth: “It is a prestigious title and one we truly believe Mandurah is worthy of. We are excited to see how we fair against other top tourist destinations across Australia later this year.”
